Practice Description

Yarra Architects is a small, locally-focused practice based in the Dandenong Ranges. We work closely with our clients and find practical solutions to challenging sites which often feature bushfire overlays, significant vegetation and steep slopes. Our work stretches across a variety of landscapes including the urban fringe of Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs, the steep slopes of Mt Dandenong and the rural areas of the Yarra Valley and Warburton.

Job Description

The Yarra Architects team is growing, and we are on the lookout for someone who has experience as a project architect or is at the right stage of their career to jump at the opportunity to be client facing and run projects from concept design through to completion. Projects are mainly residential new build and renovation/extension with the occasional local commercial project. The opening is preferably full time and based in our Tecoma office, but flexibility is negotiable for the right candidate.

What you’ll be doing:

• Running projects from concept to construction,
• Client liaison and consultant coordination,
• Preparing and overseeing planning & building permit documentation,
• Contract administration (on occasion),
• Collaborating with directors on design and delivery.

The ideal candidate would be:

• Competently able to produce concept designs, town planning and building permit drawings which are of high quality and well-coordinated,
• Able to work collaboratively as a member of a small team,
• Onboard with client-first approach, which means exploring options and carefully guiding clients through the whole design and construction process,
• Self-motivated, eager and able to problem-solve,
• A great communicator,
• Organised and dedicated to achieving the goals of a small business.

Bonus points for:

• Local applicants based in or around the Dandenong Ranges who have a passion for our area and an understanding of the opportunities and constraints that come with it,
• An understanding of bushfire regulations,
• Background in interior design.

Experience Needed

Minimum 5 years Australian post-graduate experience.

Registered architect with the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV).

Software Requirements

ArchiCAD – high level of competence and in-practice experience essential.

Salary

Negotiable based on experience and with bonus scheme based on performance.
